A new synthetic way to reduce the use of metals (Pt, Au, Pd, etc) in catalytic systems, by modifying the surface structure and increasing the surface area. Several types of mesoporous metal films are prepared by electrochemical plating in aqueous surfactant solutions, creating pore sizes between 5-30nm.
